Kolkata: A youth Trinamool Congress leader from Hooghly was shot at by some unidentified miscreants when he was returning home from party office.The incident took place in Arambagh area of the district on Sunday night. The victim, Seikh Saidul received bullets in his leg when he tried to flee the spot.The incident triggered tension among locals, following the incident. The victim was immediately rushed to a hospital at Narayanpur area of the district and later shifted to a city hospital as his condition deteriorated. When returning on his motorcycle, some miscreants stopped his way near Hiyatpur area. Apprehending the situation, the victim tried to flee the spot.The miscreants shot at him. One bullet pierced through his leg. After hearing the gun shots, locals rushed to his rescue. The miscreants fled the spot immediately after the incident.The locals found the victim lying in a pool of blood and rushed him to the hospital. Senior police officers of the district rushed to the spot immediately after the incident and started a detailed probe in this regard. The exact motive behind the attempt is yet to be confirmed by the police.The district Trinamool Congress leaders have alleged that it was an attempt of the opposition parties to weaken the organisation as the victim had been instrumental in strengthening the party’s presence in the area.The opposition parties, however, termed the incident as intra-party clash. Police are also probing if there was any old rivalry which might have led to the incident. They are interrogating locals and also party activists, who were at the party office, when he left.Raids are being conducted at various places in the districts to nab the culprits.
