first_imgMONEY FROM THE Dormant Accounts Fund is to be used to help fight the misuse of drugs and alcohol.This is thanks to a substance misuse measure in the Dormant Accounts Action Plan 2014.The Minister of State for Primary Care, Alex White, TD, welcomed the news.The Dormant Accounts Action Plan was recently adopted by the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, Phil Hogan.Task forcesThe money will be used by drug and alcohol task forces and funding of €50,000 will be available to each task force – equating to a total of €1.2 million for 2015.Money from the Dormant Accounts Fund will go towards programmes and projects that support a range of prevention and awareness-raising initiatives designed to tackle drug and alcohol misuse in Ireland.Minister White said that he believes that task forces are “well-placed to deploy the funding available to best effect, as they have local knowledge and a track record of engaging local communities around substance misuse issues”.Read: €43 million collected from dormant accounts this year>last_img read more
